Together, We’re Digging Deep This Time
We’re going to acknowledge what we don’t want to look at because it’s not pretty! I’m reviving a conversation. I’m stirring it up so you can acknowledge the painful pit in your stomach. I’m choosing to bring light to this so no woman is left behind.
Let me calmly state that this is exactly what has happened for centuries. Women’s lack of rights, silencing, less-pay-for-equal-work, and a never-ending list of atrocities borne throughout time have been perpetuated by the same reality that motivates humanity today: fear. Fear of a woman’s powerful strength. Fear of a woman’s “no.” Even fear of a woman’s “yes.”
Do you feel the emotion building – way down, belly deep? I let my breasts take the lead and I stand up even taller.
And I roar… on behalf of all women everywhere. I honour the women whose tears have anointed the Earth and the thousands of ancient narratives of women waiting to be heard and on behalf of the countless named and unnamed women that come after us. On behalf of you and me. On behalf of our daughters and our sons and all those we hold most dear.
And I roar… until the day when sacrifices of so many are a distant memory and the patriarch is no more. Until the day when terms and concepts like feminism and record number of women in government and sexual trafficking, rape and domestic violence are no longer in our vocabulary or shared consciousness. Until we no longer gossip. Until we let go of the arrogance that interprets dominion over the Earth as the right to pillage her resources.
And we praise the enduring strength and power of the feminine. No matter the obstacles, the harm, the silence, the struggle, this is our nature and capacity as women. This is what we do through our silence and our tears. Not as martyrs, but rather as passionate sacred activists, fierce champions of truth and justice for all-things-good-and-right.
And I roar… in the knowing that despite how heavy our hearts, we’ll have the strength to continue, to keep our desires for healing and change alive for such a time as this!
Fortunate are you if you are one of those who can be wise without it being a crime. And with such privilege come responsibilities – and a roar that has the potential and passion to shake both heaven and earth. So go ahead and roar. Lay down the burden once and for all – on behalf of the generations to come. I’ll hear you. And I feel the quaking in my womb even now.
And I ask: How can we live as the love offering that we are?
